Laptop screen showing an emSigner connection error for 127.0.0.1:1585

Portals such as GST and Income Tax use a small program on your computer, often emSigner, to talk to your USB token. It listens on your own machine at 127.0.0.1 on port 1585. If your browser or portal cannot reach it you will see a connection error or a message asking you to start the signer.

Why it happens

Steps to fix

  1. Install the latest signer utility from the official portal download page, and run it as administrator.
  2. Keep the signer window open and then click Sign on the portal.
  3. Open https://127.0.0.1:1585 in your browser once. If it shows a certificate warning, choose to proceed so the browser trusts the local connection.
  4. Allow the signer through Windows Firewall and your antivirus. If your antivirus scans HTTPS traffic, turn that scanning off for local addresses.
  5. Uninstall any other DSC signer utilities that may be using the same port, restart the computer and try again.

Check these too

Turn off VPN and proxy software while signing, make sure the token is plugged in before starting the signer, and use a current version of Chrome or Edge.
